Donald Trump Had ‘Very Nice’ Conversation With Obama

In the wake of public comments disparaging one another, President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday had what he called a “very nice” phone conversation with President Barack Obama.

Trump spoke to reporters on Wednesday night at his Mar-A-Lago estate near Palm Beach, Fla. He was asked if he spoke with Obama, who is vacationing in Hawaii.

“I did. He called me, we had a very nice conversation,” Trump said. “We had a general conversation. Very, very nice.”

Trump later said there had been no major transition difficulties, but also told reporters he would keep the conversation private.

“Our staffs have been getting along very well and I’m getting along very well with him other than a couple of statements that I responded to and we talked about it and smiled about it,” he said.

” … nobody is ever going to know because we are never going to be going against each other,” he said.

Reporters then asked Trump how the transition was going.

“I think very, very smoothly. It’s going good. You don’t think so?” he asked.

Obama on Monday had suggested in an interview that if he had run for a third team, he could have beaten Trump.

That statement, along with others that have been interpreted as jabs against Trump, spawned a Twitter response from the president-elect.

Trump has also been critical of the U.S. role in the UN Security Council’s recent condemnation of Israel.

However, both sides characterized Wednesday’s call as part of a smooth transition.

White House deputy press secretary Eric Schultz said in a statement: “Today’s call, like the others since the election, was positive and focused on continuing a smooth and effective transition.”

“The president and president-elect committed to staying in touch over the next several weeks and agreed their respective teams would continue to work together to effectuate a smooth transition of power on January 20th,” Schultz added.
