Democrats have recently tried to make a big deal out of President-elect Donald Trump’s so-called “cozy” relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
However, as usual, we don’t have to look far to see how hypocritical liberals are when it comes to being comfortable with questionable heads of state.
For example, in 2007, Democrats cheered when then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Pelosi met with the Syrian leader against the wishes of then-President George W. Bush, who said the visit sent “mixed signals to the Middle East and to President Assad’s government,” according to The New York Times.
The Times also reported that the Bush administration resisted the idea of establishing a dialogue with the Syria, citing its opinion that the country was a state sponsor of terrorism.
Yet Pelosi went anyway, telling reporters that “the road to Damascus is a road to peace,” according to CBS.
According to The Washington Post in September 2015, President al-Assad’s government has killed far more people in Syria this year than the Islamic State group has. Those killings include women and children.
This problem of selective reasoning is one we always seem to encounter with liberals. They want to justify situations like meetings between Pelosi and al-Assad while simultaneously attempting to make Trump look evil through accusations that he has a “cozy” relationship with Putin, which has not been established.
It goes without saying that had the tables been turned in a similar situation in which a Republican went against President Barack Obama’s wishes and met with a dictator, all hell would break loose.
It seems as though Democrats would rather promote a lie than face the truth about themselves — a serious flaw that cost them the election.
