NFL quarterback Carson Wentz made a huge Christmas and Second Amendment gesture recently when he bought each of his offensive linemen a personalized Beretta shotgun.
Quarterbacks have traditionally taken care of the linemen who take care of them each week, but this Philadelphia Eagles rookie put a new twist on that tradition with the awesome gift.
The shotguns were reportedly being engraved with each player’s number on the butt of the weapon, which is believed to be a Beretta Silver Pigeon – a $2,000 model, according to Fox News.
Allen Barbre, one of the recipients and an avid hunter like Wentz, said he was “excited” about the “awesome gun.”
“I don’t know if I’ll shoot it, though,” Barbre said. “It’s pretty nice.”
Another grateful recipient, Brandon Brooks, said he had actually been looking for a similar firearm recently.
“I like to go clay shooting and stuff,” Brooks noted, according to ESPN. “All I’ve got is a home defense tactical shotgun, short-barrel, so I was looking for one of these.”
For the linemen who weren’t familiar with guns, such as fellow NFL rookie Isaac Seumalo, the gift came with the promise to teach them how to use it.
“I haven’t really held a gun or anything before,” he said. “But I’m more than thankful for it. It looks sweet. Carson said he’d teach me how to use it and all that good stuff.”
However, not everyone was excited about the gift, and liberal gun control groups wasted no time attacking the generous gesture.
CeasefirePA said it planned to send gun locks to the Eagles players who were receiving the shotguns from Wentz, Bearing Arms reported.
The group’s executive director, Shira Goodman, told Bearing Arms that they were currently deciding whether to go with cable locks or trigger locks for the shotgun.
However, in true anti-gun activist fashion, the group apparently knew little about firearms, as neither trigger locks nor cable locks will work reliably with an over/under shotgun.
The truth is that the gift was a great display of sportsmanship, appreciation for team and generous Christmas spirit. We think it was terrific!
