After President-elect Donald Trump vanquished former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the 2016 general election, liberals claimed that there was an upsurge in the number of hate crimes being committed around the nation.
While many of these alleged hate crimes have turned out to be hoaxes, or regular crimes that the perpetrators tried to disguise as hate crimes, several have actually turned out to be real hate crimes.
For instance, Jasskirat Saini, 20, was arrested after police linked him to a rash of graffiti around the campus of Nassau Community College in New York state that was targeted at Jewish students, LI Herald reported.
Saini reportedly drew swastikas, the letters “KKK,” the words “Heil Hitler” and “Germany” around the school property during October.
“We are deeply saddened that the alleged perpetrator is a student, and it reminds us that a zero-tolerance policy and a rigorous program of on-campus anti-bias programs must be reaffirmed every day,” said the president of the college, Dr. Hubert Keen.
Saini might be going away for a long time. The Island Now reported that Saini was connected with over 100 drawings stemming from “12 different incidents,” and each incident carried a maximum sentence of four years.
This was a real hate crime targeting Jewish students because of perceived slights committed by the Jewish residents of Saini’s neighborhood.
Unfortunately, the rash of fake hate crimes following Trump’s election has dulled the response to true hate crimes. Hate crimes are unacceptable in this country — no matter whom they are committed against.
We all have a right to live peacefully together in this country, and people who think otherwise need to realize that or face the consequences of their actions.
