President Barack Obama has picked an interesting fight with Israel, one that he can afford only because he is leaving office. Though the lame duck president is used to receiving praise from Hollywood, actress, comedian, author and political activist Roseanne Barr, who is Jewish, has called him out on it, CNSNews reported.
The United States, long a defender and protector of Israel, has allowed our longstanding close relationship to collapse. A reasonable person would wonder why Obama, busy polishing his legacy, would fail Israel at this moment.
The United Nations passed a resolution on Dec.23, one day before the start of Hanukkah, denouncing Israeli settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. The U.S. refrained from using its veto power, often in the past wielded in Israel’s defense, and abstained in the 14-to-0 vote, The New York Times reported.
On Dec. 24, Roseanne Barr tweeted: “Nazis enacted anti jewish laws on the eve of jewish holidays — exactly as @POTUS has done on eve of Hanukkah. Don’t light candles 2night, BHO!”

Pretty strong language, but she is not exactly known for holding her tongue.
On Saturday and again on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also denounced the departing Obama administration, publicly accusing it of having orchestrated Friday’s Security Council resolution, despite denials from Washington.
Netanyahu’s accusation was more than serious.
“From the information that we have, we have no doubt that the Obama administration initiated it, stood behind it, coordinated on the wording and demanded that it be passed,” he said at the start of his weekly cabinet meeting, according to NBC News.
For years, Netanyahu, has walked a fine line between Israeli conservatives and liberals, backing the settlement project all over the occupied West Bank while professing support for a two-state solution with the Palestinians, The New York Times reported.
The prime minister is clearly looking past the Obama presidency at this point — and who can blame him?
“Mr. Netanyahu is looking forward to working with President-elect Trump, in our quest for peace, and in order to further strengthen the relationship between Israel and the United States,” Netanyahu spokesman David Keyes said.
