2016 election

“When you pay attention to big chunks of people who typically are ignored, interesting things happen.”

Though it has been nearly two months since Election Day, many people are still struggling to explain why President-elect Donald Trump was able to surprise everyone with his shocking electoral victory.

However, that fount of common sense and understated wisdom known as Mike Rowe was not one of those who remained flabbergasted, as he has had his finger on the pulse of everyday Americans for quite some time.

According to The Daily Caller, Rowe recently joined Fox News host Tucker Carlson for an interview about education, jobs and the job market, which coincidentally ended up revealing perhaps the best explanation ever of how Trump was able to score his massive win with the American people.

As he typically does, Rowe discussed the trade-skills gap and the dire need across the country for workers trained in the various technical trades, such as HVAC technicians, electricians, plumbers and welders, who can have rather lucrative careers earning six-figure salaries in some parts of the country.

Nevertheless, the former “Dirty Jobs” host lamented the fact that far too few Americans are really aware of either the need for those trained in a particular trade or of how successful such tradesman can be in the long run, according to BizPac Review.

“Maybe one of the barriers, really, are the people guiding them in schools at the secondary level are all liberal arts and poetry majors, not that there’s anything wrong with that,” Carlson said, prompting a chuckle from Rowe. “They don’t see the dignity in welding, maybe. Is that part of the problem?”

“I think that may be part of the problem,” was Rowe’s response. “We’re also spoiled in that wonderful way that any advanced society becomes when they flip the switch on and they don’t pause for a second to say, ‘Holy crap! I can’t believe the lights came on again.’ You flush the toilet and it goes away.”

“We’re not properly gobsmacked by the reality of the situation we live in,” he continued. “Consequently, the people who are on the front lines of those jobs are by and large transparent.”

He went on to note that those same “transparent” people were the biggest contributors to the success of his show, as well as the 2016 election.

“Honestly, that’s why that show worked. That’s also why, to some degree, the election turned out the way it did,” stated Rowe. “When you pay attention to big chunks of people who typically are ignored, interesting things happen.”

Once again Mike Rowe was absolutely correct.

For better or worse, whether you agree with his stances on all the issues or not, Trump addressed those major issues that most of the “transparent” people in the “flyover states” are truly concerned about, issues most politicians either gloss over or studiously avoid. Trump won because he paid attention to what the working men and women of America cared about.

Hopefully more politicians and potential leaders in the future will borrow a page from both Trump and Mike Rowe, as the American people would prefer not to be ignored again.

Please share this on Facebook and Twitter so everyone can hear Mike Rowe’s astoundingly common-sense explanation of why Trump won.
