By abstaining from voting during the UN resolution, Barack Obama has abandoned Israel as an ally and destroyed our relationship with the country, yet somehow it got worse.
Now, we are finding out that the repercussions of that UN resolution include the Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and the Temple mount, some of the most holiest sites to Jews and Christians, being given over to Muslims, as per Fox News.
Resolution 2334 declared Israeli settlements in Eastern Jerusalem were illegal, giving Palestine control of these sites. Eighty percent of Palestinians are Muslim, making the loss of these holy sites outrageous to Christians and Jews everywhere due to their connections with these places.
The resolution is said to “reaffirm that the establishment by Israel of settlements in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, has no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation under international law and a major obstacle to the achievement of the two-State solution and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace…”
The reason some are so upset by this is that these sites have extreme significance in the religious history of Israel. The Temple Mount is said to be built on the foundation of the Second Temple of Ancient Israel, which was taken out by the Romans.
The Western Wall is also a sacred place by Jewish and Christian accounts and is said to be remains of the ancient Israelite temple. The Western Wall is also known as the Wailing Wall and has become a place where Jews come to say prayers.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is also extremely significant to Christians and Jews because it is said to be the location where Christ was crucified and buried in the Gospels. This surely should have been reason enough to veto the resolution, and it shows that Obama might not be as strong of a Christian as he claims.
It appears those sacred areas will be under control of the Palestinian National Authority, which is mostly Muslim and believes in Sharia law. This means men can beat women at these sacred areas when they should be allowed to pray and be in peace.
Muslims could convert these holy areas into Muslim places of worship, which would desecrate their historical significance and religious value. It would be such a shame for the place where Christ died to be controlled by people who do not even believe he is the savior.
The failure of the Obama administration to veto this poor resolution was not just a knife in the back to our Israeli allies, but it was a disregard for all the American Christians who want these areas protected. Now, it appears they may become ruined by Muslim extremists.
It is for this very reason that some politicians want to revisit whether or not the U.S. should even be part of the United Nations when this is what we get. The U.S. even sends money to help fund the UN, and some are saying that should end as well.
I hope there are actions that the American and Israeli governments can take to sidestep this UN resolution and protect these holy areas from Muslim rule. If not, we may have a new time for crusades on our hands.
